Innovation in Healthcare: Driving the Future of Health Technologies
In this new session of Finance Afterwork, we will address how to promote investment and development in healthcare technology innovation by considering the regulatory perspective, the viewpoint of healthcare technology developers, evaluators and decision-makers, and the end users. The goal is to facilitate the effective integration of the most valuable innovations into the healthcare system.
Healthcare technology innovation (drugs, devices, apps, etc.) must be based on the generation of solid scientific evidence that can withstand scrutiny from regulatory authorities (EMA, AEMPS, etc.), health technology assessment bodies (HTAs, etc.), and reimbursement decision-making bodies, in order to ultimately be recommended by doctors and accepted by patients.
Health authorities have a protective approach that seeks the incorporation of healthcare technologies that are more effective, safer and better tolerated, have greater comparative effectiveness, are efficient, and do not compromise the financial sustainability of the healthcare system. All of this, combined with recent regulatory changes such as the Joint Clinical Assessment or the proposed regulation on health technology evaluation, may discourage the development and integration of healthcare technologies.
